Drawing
It is a place where people release their emotions. There is not a single person in this world who have not at least once scribbled a picture in a sheet. It may not turn out to be what we have in mind, however, it does bring a part of your imagination, a feeling into a paper.
Have you ever thought as to why some of this modern art that doesn't make any sense and they seem pretty easy that almost any idiot can do it and yet they are sold for an amount which makes you go, "whaaaaat"?
Its because the so-called modern art is an emotion that is expressed by the artist, and the people who look at them are reminded of something which stays with them. The art is able to trigger many and different thoughts in their viewer's mind.
Artists are highly creative. They think critically and has the talent to see what many misses, they have the talent to communicate to a larger crowd not by words but by pictures.
To be able to draw is a gift from God himself, who is the ultimate creator. To have the skill to make a drawing is therefore awesome. If you can create something from nothing but a pencil and paper, trust me, you got skills. And it is nothing other than a sin if you let this godly talent to rust. Polish your skills, pass it on to more and new people. This world requires more creative people like you.
Here on this page, I am going to help you with certain tips which helped me to sharpen my skills in drawing.

Start with something which is very simple:
If you are a starter to drawing and sketching I suggest you start your skills by choosing something simple and making a drawing of it. This will help you in building confidence in your skills and makes you interested in making more.

Use resources:
Before making drawings from your own imagination, try to make a drawing by looking and drawing from a picture that is already been drawn by someone. This is just to see if you have the skill to properly capture the image. Now for this, you have your own options.

Push your Limits:
I would suggest you follow the traditional way every child learns.
You start off with making a house with trees beside it, and mountains at the background with the clouds and the sun in the sky and two birds flying in the sky.
Then you move on to making small sketches on puppies and kittens and other animals, you can also focus on birds. And once you feel like you can handle that move on to more complex ones like making a drawing of a person or a bunch of people.
Then you again move on to make better sketches by making portraits of people.

Use the Internet:
Google helps you with everything. Google can provide you with all the images through which you can inspire and make drawings. YouTube is the best of all. It helps you with video tutorials, step by step instructions on how you can make specific drawings. With the help of the internet, it has become very easy for people to conduct research and to identify new and various other means of making drawings which brings me to my next important tip.

Try something new:
Never settle by your single skill of the art. Youtube has tonnes of videos showing various types of artworks that can be practiced even from your home. So don't settle for few and always keep trying out new ideas when it comes to art.

Get the right pencil for the job:
This is just as important as any other healthy tip. There are pencils that are available at the book stores that are specifically meant for drawings. The ones that are usually available for everyone is the normal Apsara, or Natarj pencils which comes in 2B. There are also various other pencils that are available in the book stores that comes in 4B, 6B, 8B, 9B, 10B and in some places there are even pencils that comes above 10B. Then we have charcoal pencils. To me, the best pencil that helps me bring a perfect balance to darkness and smoothness is 9B. And this is subject to change for each individual. I strongly suggest that you get a set of all these pencils and try it out. Find the right one for you and start making magic with it.

Practice:
This, I have to stress as I said before, ability to draw or create is a very unique set of skills that if you left unattended have definite chances of you losing the touch. Therefore if you love drawing, do it. Do it when you are waiting, do it when you are bored, do it when you find the time.
There is nothing that I enjoy more than listening to music that gives me the energy to work and focus on capturing art.

Find your break:
Every artist has a secret. They have a point of start which is unique and different from that of other artists. While making a portrait, some find it easy to make an outline of the face first easy, some start with the hair, some with the nose. Me, personally, I find it easier and faster when I start the portrait with the eyes of the person and build myself from there. Of course, it varies from person to person so always give it a shot from various angles and see if this is the right way for you.

Editing:
This is especially for me. When I make a pencil sketch or a portrait of a person, I am given a photo of the person. I edit this picture in 'Picasa' photo editor, I convert it into black and white and I make some further edits to the boost up the image to get me a preview of how my drawing has to look after I draw them. This helps me address the sharpest details in a portrait and really make the portrait look awesome.

Shading:
Shading is the final awesome, finishing touch of your portrait or sketches. Some of the artists prefer to do the shading as and when he progresses through the drawing while there are also some who first makes the complete outline of the drawing and after the whole thing is made then moves on to the shading part.
It is also important to shade the drawing in a particular manner and keep doing the same way all the way through. That is if you are shading the drawing vertically keep doing the shading vertically, do not deviate and make the shading in horizontal on top of vertical shading. People who are starters to drawing often do that as they believe its easier and saves time. Well, art is not meant to be easier and faster, they are meant for your expression of yourself. So unless your drawing wants to say that you are lazy and impatient, let's work for the perfection to the best of your efforts.
Shading can be darkened and lightened with the pressure that you apply on the paper with your pencil. Understand where the pressure must go higher and identify where it goes lighter. This will make your drawing look like a professional one.

Keep in mind that each artist has their own secrets and their way or making a portrait will be completely different from the next. This is why every art by every artist is unique. There is never a competition between artists. They all have the utmost respect for one another and they don't hesitate to admire or compliment on one another's talent.
All set?
Let's start making art!
